 Tribute to “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka
By: Josh Rosenfield
In 1986 I discovered this thing called Pro-wrestling and specifically WWE(WWF at that moment in time).

Many characters suck out to me. One in particular really stood out. His name was Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. He would jump off the top rope and land on his opponent.

Not many, if any, were doing moves like that. He would do these Karate-like chops and kicks and he really made that ring pop with excitement.
He would do all of this in his bare feet too!! That always stuck out in my mind. To me, even at a young age, I had to wonder, was he really brave for not wearing traditional boots, or crazy. Either way, he always was a favorite of mine as a kid.

Mr. Snuka was a stalwart of WWE, never really going to many of the other big time promotions during his hey-days.

He had runs in Mid-Atlantic, Hawaii, and the AWA but to many his most memorable moments took place working for Vince McMahon Jr.

His most memorable match was when he went up against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 7.
I for sure did not think Undertaker was going to beat “Superfly”, and yet he did, and rather decisively too. “Superfly” was the toughest man to me at that time. For Undertaker to beat him meant Undertaker was that more tough.

“Superfly” died this morning, January 15, 2017. He was 73.

I got to meet Mr. Snuka a few years back with my son. He was a very nice man and a real class act. Fly high “Superfly” Thank you for being an innovator of high flying aerial style wrestling.
