2017 is what for most on social media is being prayed for to be a good year.
For wrestling fans 2017 is the highest expected year as of late for the most wrestling in a long time. I as a fan cannot wait to see what 2017 has to offer.
First off is WWE. WWE is opening the flood gate of excitement as they begin with the ever anticipated Royal Rumble. The first two entrants off the bat, heading out of 2016, are BRRROOOOOCK LLLEEEESSSSNNNNAAAAAARRR and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDBERG!!!
This is already guaranteed box office.
The surprise entrants being guessed are being thrown around like rice at a wedding.
That aside, WWE is also ramping up this month the much anticipated UK Championship Tournament.
This tournament is going to bring forth a unique style of wrestling as UK style wrestling is a very different style. It combines smash mouth brawling with technical finesse the likes of which isn’t seen anywhere else. I can’t wait for that tournament myself.
If you are a fan of William Regal, Fit Finlay and Dynamite Kid (if you are not you NEED to subscribe to WWE Network and watch their matches), you will love this tournament.
Also adding to that is the return of Chris Hero/Kassius Ohno to NXT, as well as the ever growing 205 Live.
With WrestleMania around the bend and the surprises awaiting us, WWE is almost guaranteed a great 2017.
TNA has been given a new lease on life. The Canadian TV company Anthem Sports has acquired TNA for its TV channel. With this means that Dixie Carter is now out as an influential member of TNA management.
What this means for TNA is still up in the air. This does mean that TNA is still an independent wrestling company and can attempt to be WWE’s main competitor should the right people be in charge.
New Japan, ROH, EVOLVE, and GFW are all looking to capitalize on the growth of wrestling as a more worldwide connected sport and entertainment platform as everyone is either trying to grow new stars, or grab whomever they can the WWE has released to build their brand around.
ROH has done wonders for growing stars and making them available to be put in the next level of wrestling. ROH has always had the ability to jump in as a major powerhouse, and don’t be surprised if that dark horse comes out of the gate (we can only hope).
I’m going to be glued to WWE Network and news outlets to see where stars go, who rises up, and what exciting stories unfold, both inside and outside, the squared circle this year.
Come join me on the adventure.
